Our history

The Waynesville-St. Robert Senior Center traces its roots to the growing need in Pulaski County for a dedicated gathering place and service hub for older adults. Located at 1401 A Ousley Road, Waynesville, Missouri, the Center serves the communities of Waynesville, St. Robert and surrounding areas, particularly residents aged 60 and above.

Early Beginnings

In its early phase, the senior center was part of a broader movement in the 1980s–90s to establish communal spaces where seniors could come together for meals, activities, socialization and support services. Although an exact founding year isn’t widely published, the WSTRSC gradually became a recognized pillar for senior service in Pulaski County.

Growth & Service Expansion

Over time, the Center expanded its offerings beyond simply a lunch venue. By partnering with programs from the Central  Missouri Area Agency on Aging and other nonprofits, the Center began providing congregate meals, home-delivered meals to those homebound, educational and recreational activities, and even functioning as a community support site during extreme weather events (cooling/warming center) for the broader community.

For example, the Center serves as a “warming center when there is a declared cold weather emergency (Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–2 p.m.) and serves as a cooling‐site in heat emergencies.

Location & Community Role

Situated near the heart of the Waynesville–St. Robert area, the Center’s physical location reflects its importance to the region. Many residents and military families (due to nearby Fort  Leonard  Wood) see WSTRSC as a welcoming space for older adults seeking fellowship, nutritious meals, and meaningful activities.

Services Today

Today, the Center operates Monday through Friday, offering hot meals at lunchtime along with a robust schedule of social events, games, live entertainment, and educational programs tailored to older adults.

It is open for all (not just our amazing over 60 crowd)  and provides a place of fellowship and community. Donations are requested but optional, and the Center functions with the support of volunteers, local oversight, and community partnerships.

Legacy & Impact

Over the years, the WSTRSC has become more than just a senior lunch site, it has become a community anchor. It helps reduce isolation, promotes independence, and fosters inter-generational connection. Many of its patrons credit the Center with helping them stay active, engaged and connected to community. The presence of the Center in the Waynesville–St. Robert area is emblematic of a commitment to valuing older adults and ensuring they remain an integral part of community life.

Looking Ahead

As the needs of the senior population continue to evolve, ranging from wellness programming to technology access, transportation and social connectivity, the WSTRSC remains poised to adapt. Its mission remains focused on enhancing physical and social well-being, promoting independence, and offering a welcoming space where older adults can gather, thrive, and support one another.
